Spy ware means any program that can change your computers operating system while gathering info about your time while you are on the computer. The info is usually sent to the spy ware creator or owner via your network connection without your knowledge or blessing. In order for it to work correctly, it must be able to run without the user shutting the computer down – i.e. be memory resident at startup. Being hidden also helps the software program to get installed in the first instance. Because of this, spy ware is usually disguised as a Trojan horse or similar application.

This is a program that quietly runs in the background, inviting the user to execute it, while spreading its malicious nasty code. This software code can do any number of things. It can start right away on start-up or it may simply install a program that won’t start for sometime. Once it does start up, it can delete all of the files on the computer or it can infect the computer with more adware or spyware and try to infect other computers on the network or lan through shared drives and servers. There are a number of ways spy ware is deployed, and as a Trojan horse is the most common. It usually comes with other pieces code that a user might find interesting. This software is usually shared through a file-sharing network or downloadable off of the net for free. Once the user installs the software, the spy ware also gets installed.
